A very popular service style in our market, a buffet features long tables with a variety of menu offerings being beautifully presented. The buffet is typically set up so guests can access the food from both sides as guests serve themselves. We recommend one buffet per 100-150 guests. This is usually the most economical dinner option as it requires less staff than a plated/served service and less rentals as well. There is no advance choice required by guests and Kitchen Door prepares each menu item so that they can be enjoyed by all your guests. This is generally more casual that a plated dinner however, having the first course (soup, starter or salad) pre-set or served is also a popular choice. Full seating for all your guests is recommended for buffet service.

This style of service is less formal and is a perfect option for couples who want a more casual reception. Stations are set-up around the event space as “mini buffets” with either chef-attended action stations or self-serve presentation stations. This style of service often features a variety of themes menus or internationally inspired cuisine. The pricing ranges dramatically for stations based on the magnitude of variations, the pricing is almost always more expensive than a buffet. This is due, in part, to the amount of variety, the volume of rentals required at each stations vs just one place-setting per person and additional service staff to clear all of the guestware.

Seated & Plated

A sit-down plated and served menu is the most formal of all the service options and tends to be the most expensive option. To execute a served dinner well, there is a requirement for larger volumes of service and kitchen staff to ensure the service is flawless. In addition, a larger volume of rentals are generally required (versus one plate per person for a buffet, a plated course might have 3-6 plates depending on the menu). For dinner service, your guests remain seated while our servers bring beautiful plates for each course to the table. Plated dinners with a guests’ choice entrée require the couple/planner to track menu selections and provide place cards and a seating chart to the caterer. If you would like to forego the hassle of tracking, you can offer a single choice entrée (i.e. all guests are served the same entrée).

$75*/pp and up

This style of service has become increasingly popular in recent years. Perfect for later evening or shorter receptions, this format has guests mingling throughout the evening while being served tray-passed hors d’oeuvres by our servers. Depending on the length of the reception, additional stationary food or grazing stations may be included. Guests are still offered a dinner portion of food throughout the evening – it is just serviced in small bites over a longer period of time. Also it can, at times, be less expensive depending on the volume of food you are looking to serve. However, it is often more labour intensive to prepare a multitude of small bites versus one complete meal, therefore the cost can often be similar to a buffet or station style reception.

What people say!

Kitchen door was recommended through a family friend and we could not be happier that we were able to book them!! We received a blessing in disguise when we learned 5 months out from our wedding that our caterer fell through. We got in touch with one of the events managers, Brittany and we were immediately put at ease. She was prompt with returning call and emails. All potential menu options sounded phenomenal and when we inquired about tweaks the chef’s response was sent back to us so quickly! We had an onsite tasting at Kitchen Door which was some of the best food we had ever eaten. It was also a great opportunity to meet before the big day and go over details. In addition, Brittany traveled to our wedding location to scope out the kitchen, venue dishes and discuss details with the staff of the venue. I was so comforted by how professional she was. We have had non-stop compliments about the food (and KD staff) at our wedding from the first course service until now! I would recommend kitchen door catering to anyone looking to have better than most restaurant-quality food served at their wedding. Get the braised beef short ribs entree! My husband and I are already scheming how to get more.”.

Our talented team of professional staff are exceptional at what they do.  Let our knowledgeable team take care of all the details so you can immerse yourself in the celebration!
